This white house is located in a peaceful neighborhood in Taichung City. The couple, who have retired, decided to return to the wife's hometown and demolish the old, dilapidated house and build a new home on the land they inherited. Because the husband is an old friend of my father, who has known each other for over half a century, it was natural to entrust me with the task of planning and designing.
This is an architecture that is not related to the trend and has no style, like a white background as if it is quietly wrapping the daily life that is constantly happening and brewing inside. Similar to a traditional courtyard house, there is a courtyard in the center with a length and width of 15 feet, surrounded by walkways and public spaces; the bedrooms are arranged on the southeast periphery, and can be aware of the activities of other family members at any time, but also adequately protect personal privacy without interference. In addition, light, wind, and even rain can penetrate the house through various openings of different properties and sizes, as well as two other terraces of different scales, allowing people to appreciate the changing of the seasons. In these small secret realms, birds, clouds, moons, stars...pass by quickly or slowly from above, each moment is eternal. I hope the retired couple can spend their old age here peacefully.
The several cherry trees in front and back of the house were all planted by the wife's father. After the new house was completed, they were transplanted back and continued to bloom for this home.
