The project area is located 28 kilometers west of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. The nature of the built substance of Saguramo is formed by holiday homes, country and residential houses.
The main concept of the building became clear at the first visit to the plot. Perennial oak trees, the view of the Caucasus and the topography of the site were the challenges that the project had to respond to and take advantage of the existing situation.
The arrangement of plants in scattered groups was the main determinant of the presence of an internal courtyard in the southern part of the building, and a cozy and comfortable social recreation space on both floors in the northwestern part.
Floor-to-ceiling stained-glass windows break the boundary between the local landscape and the building, while providing an uninterrupted panoramic view of the Caucasus. Accordingly, all spaces are ventilated.
Together with the "flowing facade", the building's harmonious entry into the existing environment is ensured by the facades covered with dry-lay Georgian bricks, which are divided horizontally by metal Y-shaped profiles, and vertically by water pipes.
The free and light interior planning uses heavy and rich materials such as: metal in various forms and marble Pietra Gray, which creates a contrast and allows the interior to be a harmonious continuation of the existing environment and the volume of the building.
Architecture is a living process and sometimes it is impossible to determine everything in advance, perhaps this is one of the charms of architecture. At the design stage, this house was conceived as a weekend/relaxation environment, and after the completion of the construction, the environment was so "own" for the customers that they made it their daily living.
