New Life into a 10-Year-Old Concrete House: A Radical Transformation into a Bright, Airy Modern Nordic Home
As time passes, the definition of "home" naturally evolves with the changing rhythms of a family's life. Such was the case for this two-story concrete house. Despite its sturdy decade-old structure and traditional Hip roof (Panya roof), the original design felt heavy, enclosed, and increasingly misaligned with the family's modern lifestyle—which demanded dedicated relaxation zones, communal activity spaces, and a greater sense of openness.
The core challenge of this renovation was to completely rewrite the home’s visual identity with a modern aesthetic, while seamlessly integrating a series of new, well-proportioned functions. The extensive spatial update includes expanding the second floor to accommodate a spacious Master Bedroom, widening the living and guest areas to invite an influx of airiness, converting the old carport into a dedicated home gym for wellness enthusiasts, and building a newly extended garage to accommodate more vehicles.
Rather than opting for a total demolition, the architect strategically utilized the "existing structure" as an anchor, bridging the past with innovative ideas. The design beautifully harmonizes the sleek, sophisticated edge of Modern style with the warm, comforting, and clean lines of Nordic architecture. By completely reconfiguring the spatial layout and visual connections, the interior and exterior environments now interact in a fluid, multi-dimensional harmony.
The final result is a complete shedding of yesterday's confined atmosphere, giving rise to a rejuvenated home bathed in natural light and seamless spatial flow—a remarkable transformation that leaves virtually no trace of the original house.
