Design Intent: The inspiration for the dream villas were not far of reach; the area's natural condition and rich history has informed quite naturally on the RDV’s architecture. This natural sensibility has been abstracted throughout the architecture narrative by its environment context as a series of intersecting dunes orientated to optimize the prevailing winds, and crafted to provide internal space with high quality daylight while maintaining its comfort under the harsh sun. With this significant gesture of the roof, it enables various spaces with its own characteristics, namely:
The ‘Cave’- a shared space at the conjunction of two villas, aimed to provide a transitional space between outdoor and indoor, with a level of comfort under the protection of the roof, enhancing natural ventilation and maximizing indirect sunlight into it.
The ‘Valley’- Outdoor activities is intended to take place between the formal composition of the roof ‘dunes’, extending the flow of shared space from the ‘Cave’.
The ‘Garden’- They are the private gardens that served different functions at various locations of the buildings, encircling the overall architecture composition while it appears to extend its course.
The concept is simple and calm, with articulated, dividing horizontality to provide diverse space and curational options allowing flexibility of social spaces, meditation area, common areas, garden, orchards, etc. It draws the site a new sensibility, which is the respect that must be treated where the architecture meets nature.
The rows of dunes are formed according to the range of different programs that the villas have, simultaneously, ensuring well connection between the public and private areas. The exterior finishes of the building aim to reflect sunlight and help to further reduce energy consumption. The building structure has been developed to integrate its structural logic, minimizing its presence to the internal space.
The Riyadh Dream Villa is a place where public intersects with private, and where the man-made communicates with nature. Reclaim, transform and remediate.
