The Riverlands neighbourhood is a 90 acre site next to Red Deer's downtown core, and along the Red Deer River. The City owns roughly 25 acres of vacant land which will be made available to private developers for medium density, mixed use residential, commercial and office development. The revisioned community has been master planned and the Area Redevelopment Plan and revised Land Use Bylaw were approved at the end of 2016.
Currently the project team is working on construction of new utilities, roads, sidewalks, trails, public plaza spaces and park spaces. The City is investing significantly in this area to catalyze the redevelopment of this unique downtown development opportunity.
Land sales are anticipated to start in September of 2017 and it is hoped that the first new development project will break ground in 2018.
