The new mountain hut on Monte Altissimo is conceived as a physical, environmental, and functional expression of the Borno area, looking towards the future. The goal is to create a building-landscape that can convey, through its forms, the identity and complexity of the mountain, its dialogue with the surroundings, and its integration with the technical character of the new cable car’s mountain station. All this is aimed at achieving an iconic role, easily perceptible and recognizable, within the environmental and hospitality system of the summit.
The formal language, with a strong resemblance to the orographic and tectonic landscape of the mountain, represents the connection between the functional character of the “Refuge” building and the inclusive aspect of accessible hospitality, which is primary in its conception. The spectacular view from the plateau at the summit, its horizontal surface, and its 360-degree panoramic aspect have deeply inspired the overall vision and suggested the shapes and curves that become the narrative voice of the structure.
