The energy efficiency renovation of the Kapfenberger residential complex from the 1960s is a demonstrator project from the program line “House of the Future Plus,“ and is executed with the support of the Federal Ministry for Traffic, Innovation and Technology, Austrian Research Funding Association, the Austrian Financial Services Society, ÖGut, as well as the State of Styria and the Municipality of Kapfenberg. Through innovative measures in insulation and use of renewable energy
sources, it was transformed into a Plus-Energy House. This not only means that the building‘s energy need will be reduced to zero, but that the building also produces its own electrical power which is re-sold.
The existing building of SG-Ennstal is reconstructed by means of a refurbishment of the facade using prefabricated wood components over a height of 39 feet, with integrated building systems and panels for renewable energy into a Plus-Energy House. Additionally, the apartments are modernized through new spatial arrangements, balconies and loggias.
