The project is located in a prime area of Rabat. This 6-hectare project (excluding the track) benefits from its proximity to the green spaces of the Souissi district and the lively atmosphere of the Agdal district, in the heart of the city, enhancing biodiversity and nature within the urban landscape. The Rabat racecourse is being reimagined as a future sporting and social landmark, in line with Rabat’s identity as a "City of Light."
Reflecting the rapid development of Morocco, the proposal represents architecture that is both contemporary and deeply rooted in the country’s tradition. The challenge of the project is to enhance a site with a multifunctional program that reflects the diversity of the location. It is a place that attracts a wide-ranging audience, all united by a shared passion: the horse. The proposal is contemporary and innovative approach to architectural design, worthy of the Souissi racecourse—one of the most important in the kingdom—while also facilitating its international reach.
The proposal employs various design strategies like the integration of the landscape within the design, clear distribution of flows to create accessible and unhindered circulation of the different users in two levels, a volumetric organization of the programme, a distinctive structure and a reflective, active canopy that, through its folds, allows for rainwater collection, solar panel installation and interesting light diffusion.
