The site is located in an Athens suburb called Gerakas. The narrowness of the site led us to design a house attached to the adjacent buildings.
The basement serves mainly as a parking space, but in it is also the wine cellar and storage and HVAC rooms. On the ground floor, there is the living room with a fireplace and the dining and kitchen space. The upper floor houses bedrooms and bathrooms.
We designed the common spaces, as well as the master bedroom, to be located at the front of the house and face the public garden that is across the street. In the back, a private yard was created to follow the kitchen and be a place of privacy and isolation.
Key Elements
- At the core of the house, between the living room and the staircase, is an internal atrium with a small garden that captures and distributes natural light.
- On the ground level, a curved wall leads the way toward the main entrance.
- The dominant shape of the upper floor is rectangular.
- Pure white color on the “hard surfaces,” cedar wood coverings and clear glass, were used to produce the final aesthetic result.
