The Princess R35 Motor Yacht marks a redefined brand identity for both Pininfarina of America and Princess Yachts, marking the first Princess R Class performance sports yacht of its kind. Originally debuted at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2018, the R35 embodies three key design points: an avant-garde yacht with an astonishing skin and a sprinter’s heart.
A core design tenet of Pininfarina is their focus on human-centric design. The R35 is a nod to Pininfarina’s renowned attention to aerodynamics that have been prioritized since founder Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina shaped the DNA of the company that is based on pure and elegant lines traced at the service of speed and performance.
As with all Pininfarina designs — industrial, interior, architectural, transportation or automotive — beauty is prioritized, but form must always follow function. Pininfarina included the latest computational fluid dynamics techniques in this yacht. Air intakes in the yacht’s bulwark have a dual purpose: they are functional, collecting air for the engines, and operating as air-ejector systems that expel air away from the tail vortex to improve aerodynamic behaviour; additionally, they are aesthetically pleasing, with a wing that covers the Air Intakes to shape the boat’s exterior in a unique way.
