Benedito Calixto Square in São Paulo is a versatile public space, with a notable event for its famous cultural fair on Saturdays and daily use by residents for leisure and exercise.
The revitalization project focuses on welcoming, valuing biodiversity and reconnecting with nature, through winding paths and native vegetation of the Atlantic Forest. Existing trees will be preserved, and local species, including some endangered ones, were chosen to attract urban fauna and improve environmental quality.
The project also aims to promote health and well-being, contributing to the connection between citizens and the regional biome.
Elements such as decks, bandstands and courts were redesigned to provide greater interaction and experience in the space, such as wooden and metal decks that integrate with the forest and hammocks that encourage contemplation.
Modern bandstands were added for cultural events and the court will be expanded to facilitate sports and host musical performances. The Saturday craft fair will have an optimized layout with retractable stalls and street closures to expand capacity from 320 to 390 stalls.
The sectorization of the square and the use of colors on the floor encourage both introspection and interaction, creating an inclusive and dynamic experience.
