NORD Architects are involved as co-curators and project developers on Possible Greenland which is on display as the Official Danish contribution to the 13th International Architecture Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia. Possible Greenland is planned to travel to Greenland in 2013 to cater discussions and inspire further investigations on Greenland’s possibilities.
Possible Greenland is a project that seeks to explore possibilities, within different fields in the present challenges that Greenland faces. The rapid development in Greenland due to climate changes, a growing political self-awareness and the emergence of new natural resources makes it necessary to inform the decision making with concrete scenarios about a possible future. Architecture holds the capacity to make knowledge and decisions operational and visible. Possible Greenland investigates how an architectural approach can qualify and inform the way Greenland utilizes its challenges within migration, cultivation of natural resources, habitation, connections and organisational matters.
Possible Greenland is developed through numerous encounters and travels to Greenland where all contributing partners ranging from decision makers, officials, experts, commercial partners and first and foremost Greenlandic and Danish architects has researched and developed a range of specific projects that explores the possibilities within the major themes in Greenland.
NORD Architects has the role as co-curators and have contributed to the overall concept development in collaboration with curator, Minik Rosing Professor in Geology and the DAC/Danish Architecture Centre. NORD Architects was handling the overall process design, facilitating workshops and meetings, executing the exhibition design and contributing with specific items and project material to the exhibition in Venice.
