This is a 3rd year studio design project. During the design process of Portland Municipal Courthouse, I researched, explored and integrated various ways of reducing the stress related to the courthouse environment. Both interior and exterior of the building were influenced by the process. The result was an organic looking building, which was intended to act as a positive icon for the judicial system. Inside, maximized day lighting and views, plants and vegetation, high ceilings and open spaces created a positive environment. Many sustainable features were also incorporated to increase the indoor air quality and reduce the operational costs of the building.
