Portal House
Portal House is a new, low-energy home on a steep, remote West Wales hillside overlooking the Irish Sea. The design responds to the plot’s panoramic ocean views with a sleek concrete portal frame, which creates a unique outdoor living room for clients to enjoy in any season and weather.
A secret courtyard with a circular plunge pool is tucked towards the rear of the home. From here, seamless glazing allows views of the home’s dining space and the coast beyond. Timber sleeping pods surround this central dining area, providing a core social space for family gatherings away from coastal winds. The home's infinity pool reflects the portal frame structure. Hyde + Hyde’s design also includes a storm shelter, which cantilevers out from the hillside and offers a new perspective on the coastline.
