Upward Architecture designed this proposal for Plenty of Swift, a bar and restaurant themed around the historic 1936 Olympic Rowing Team, at SeaTac Airport. Taking cues from turn-of-the-century boathouses throughout the PNW, Plenty of Swift captures its audience by conveying the richness of the sport of rowing and the heart-warming story of the UW’s Boy’s of ’36 Olympic victory. A warm and natural material palette creates a backdrop for the story to come to life. Staggered shingle siding evokes the cedar siding of historic Seattle area construction, and the exposed timber rafter tails of the canopy are reminiscent of indoor-outdoor spaces throughout the region. Mixing an eclectic decor of trophies and historic photos, as well as an opportunity to sample Washington State wines and artisan beers, Plenty of Swift continues the storytelling and educates travelers on the region’s culture.
