Phillips Academy, Bulfinch Hall

Andover, MA, United States

YEAR
2012
Bulfinch Hall is one of the oldest buildings on the Phillips Academy campus and houses the English Department. ABA completed a restoration, renovation and expansion of this gracious Federal-Style building.

The building was made fully accessible, with a new systems and information infrastructure to accommodate the Academy’s changing teaching requirements. A one-story addition, sited on the building’s lower level accommodates two multi-media classrooms that can be reconfigured for seminars, lectures, firm presentations, and for student and faculty gatherings. A green roof on the addition allows the Academy to capture and use rainwater on-site in lieu of discharging to Town systems, and serves as a tangible pedagogic example of environment sustainability.
