This project is located in a non-private community. The land is also limited when we compare the space with the required function by the house owner. The project design, therefore, focuses on solving the existing problems. We then asked some questions about how to design the project such that the tenants are eased by good air circulation in the building and have privacy in the house.
In order to solve function density, we start with the house owner’s requirement of parking space for 3 cars. The designer has the parking area in the middle of the property and 2 big function spaces located on the left and right. The smaller space in the middle accommodates stairs, a kitchen, a Buddha room, a balcony and a corridor.
The primary function space of the house, which includes a living room, a dining room, a food preparation room, is on the left of the property because it faces north and receives the least amount of sunlight. We design this main function as a shared space with no room division so as to reduce area density.
To solve sunlight and natural wind problems, there are not only a balcony around the house, we design the balcony function to have a concave part into the building. The roof of this area is a skylight roof which allow maximum natural light. In addition, the balcony area will connect the interior and external atmospheres allowing the tenants to feel free even they are living in the house.
To design the appearance of the house, we want it blend with the surroundings because the site is located in a community and the house will not look too different. By the way, we still maintain the modernity of the house, so we combine a slab roof with a sloping roof together.
The roof position is chosen and placed in accordance with the functionality and connect with the ceiling in the house for making the interior more interesting.
