Urban Design Group served as architect, project manager, and historic consultant for Patterson Park Lofts, a sensitive adaptive reuse of a historic church in Baltimore’s Fells Prospect neighborhood. The project transformed the two-story structure into eight residential units and a large commercial space while preserving defining features such as the original stone and brick masonry, stained glass windows, altar, and fireplace. Working closely with city agencies, the team secured necessary zoning approvals and historic designations, ensuring the project met both the owner’s objectives and community expectations. All historic materials were carefully cleaned, restored, and reinstalled to maintain the building’s architectural integrity and spiritual character. The completed redevelopment stands as a model of preservation-driven design, blending modern multifamily living with deep respect for the building’s historic fabric—earning both federal and local historic tax credits in recognition of its success.
