The intervened house is located at the Bagatela Pateo, in the center of Lisboa. It is a duplex apartment taking advantage of an attic with a mezzanine over the ground floor. Besides the sensation of double ceiling height on the living room and the house amplitude, it presented itself as an heavy, shadowy and outdated scenario.
As such, it was decided to open the kitchen over the dining room, maintaining the lounge space safeguarded by a wall.
Hydraulic mosaic was applied in the kitchen area, conveying to a more traditional spirit, taking advantage of this material functionalities in moist areas, setting the space apart.
The stairway box was opened to the living room, conveying to the stairs a sculpture like and space participative element.
The rooms are located on the -1 floor. One of the existent rooms was converted into a closet and created a big suite with private toilet room. The existing bathtub was removed and implemented a generous sized shower, coated with traditional black tile. The bathroom of the old suite was altered to serve the remaining two rooms. In that same toilet a bathtub was placed under the stairs attic loft, in a concrete coated niche, creating a more intimate bath environment.
