Following an EU-wide architectural competition, the Karlsplatzpassage and the listed Opernpassage were completely renovated and optimized in terms of design and technology, all without interrupting operations.
One of the main objectives was to optimize the mobility of Vienna's most important public transport hub for more than 200,000 people with, among other things, an attractive design and quality of stay, better orientation, an increased sense of security and accessibility.
In addition to widening and clearly structuring the passage, the architects developed the idea of turning the passage into an art and culture mile through an international artists' competition. At the same time, the original condition of the listed Opera Passage was restored and the historic building modernized while retaining its historical character.
