This architecture deals with a tree house an triggers all the features which are still familiar to us from our childhood memories: a personal retreat high above ground, the joy of overseeing the garden with a wide view, a secret hiding place for all our favourite toys and the sound of the wind running through the leaves of the surrounding trees. Those ideas were summarized and supplemented with the functions of an extravagant garage. Above all, also the topography of the site, the location as well as the accessibility have invited us – a cooperation of Söhne & Partner architects and Best(un)Built – to a special staging.
Forms, materials and geometry create a mysterious, powerful and surprising atmosphere – reminiscent of a dramatic composition of a James Bond movie.
A house in the trees
The architectural idea for this project includes a garage with the net area of 63m² plus a stairway podium with 3,6m². By including the trees of the site into the project a polygonal plot is the result. The bridge on the garage entrance on the street side, the two large glass portals and the exterior staircase, leading down into the garden and living area, form a straight connection of interior and exterior.
The parking deck is held up by a central support column and protrudes like a spreading tree crown over its trunk. The tree house itself represents the tree on which it is built. Underneath the cantilevered section of the building the terrace forms a safe and secured spot.
The façade unifies the building from all sides, even from underneath. The parking lot itself is arranged very generously and accommodates two cars and two motorcycles.
