Park Slope Row House

We returned this brownstone in the heart of Park Slope to a bright and beautiful two-family, undoing a series of disjointed renovations in previous decades. Many of the original details had been damaged or stripped out over the years, so BHA worked to restore, rebuild, and reinvent the classic elements of brownstone architecture in a way that modernized the layout and opened up the home.
Installing steel in the high ceilings of the parlor level allowed us to open the entry, living, and dining areas to one another, making a modest 18’ wide townhouse feel much wider. Structural steel also allowed a wall of glass to brighten the kitchen, which now spans the full width of the house and includes both a spacious island and a breakfast nook. The unusual green of the lower cabinets complements the dramatic soapstone counters. A new steel deck overlooks the lush modern garden, designed by landscape architect Hans Hesselein of Apiary Studio.
On the 3rd floor, two new skylights brighten the central playroom, which features a stunning custom oak-and-blackened-steel screen that replaces a traditional balustrade. Interior designer Crystal Maki layered in a mixture of modern and traditional furnishings in happy colors, injecting the home with cheerful warmth
