Looking to expand their home on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, the owners of a 1-bedroom unit bought the adjacent mirror-image apartment, sight unseen, when it became available. It turned out to be in rough shape. BHA reconfigured the two apartments to make a gracious three bedroom, two bath home for the growing family. Taking cues from the owners’ past renovations, we stitched the two spaces together with herringbone floors, custom cabinetry, and key additions like laundry. The kitchen was expanded into the obsolete foyer, with greater storage and space for a casual table. The kitchen’s new pocket door entrance is integrated into a wet bar for the dining room. The main bathroom lies beyond a walk-in closet with abundant storage.
