In the middle of Karachi's dense urban fabric, the four palm trees on this site defined an environment of their own. The tall vertical barks swayed with the wind, the long fluttering leaves enveloped the site within their shadows. "they are like big fans on site" one of us mentioned as we discussed the design.
The palette of the house takes inspiration from the textures and colors of these Palm Trees. The house belongs to a dear friends family. They had been living in an old house in Garden East for many years of their life and this change was physically and emotionally big for them.
We worked with salvaged old Burma teak doors and materials that resonate the memory of their old home. When the family finally moved to their new house, it felt like home to them.
