Of pressing
importance is how to manage conflicts between watershed
protection and urban development. Landscape architects must conceive of
ways to retrofit existing infrastructure that is overtaxed by growing
urban populations in combination with struggling natural systems. At the
heart of this struggle is the connection between what happens at the
source (i.e. the paving of driveways by individual property owners) and
the cumulative, large-scale effects of these small-scale acts.
We developed a consumer product in the
spirit of the classic lawn ornament that will appeal to individual
homeowners, so one by one, they can take a bite out of storm water.
