This commercial development consists of two 14-storey office buildings and two retail villas with total gross floor area of about 55,000 sq. m. RLP’s contribution to the project included schematic design, section 16 applications, design development and façade design in collaboration with PLP Architects.
The design was inspired by the distinctive silhouettes of traditional junks on the South China Sea. The façade creates a dynamic series of silhouettes, depicting junks sailing in the wind and dynamically moving on the harbour. Vertical glass fins catch light at various times of day, creating bright, glistening surfaces that appear to always be in motion.
The development has numerous sustainable elements: the south-facing building blocks have architectural fins to reduce solar heat gain. Generous landscaped ventilation corridors enhance passive air ventilation in all seasons. The landscape design itself creates a series of attractive spaces that act as primary connection nodes between the city and the Hong Kong’s internationally-renowned waterfront, allowing the public greater access to this incredible amenity.
The design achieved BEAM Gold rating (provisional) and a LEED Gold rating from the U.S. Green Building Council.
