YEAR
2003
On behalf of the Society for Environmental Graphic Design, LHSA+DP illuminated the difference between two dimensional graphic design and three dimensional graphic design by exploring the third dimension. In the exhibit, an origami-like envelope appeared to be cut out of and folding into the space, morphing from the 2D to the 3D realm in the process. Visitors also encountered an array of physical signage and imagery layered on surfaces and intersecting the space. LHSA+DP posed the question – what is environmental graphic design? – to a variety of people on the street as well as professional environmental graphic designers. Their diverse and often unexpected answers comprised a graphic installation for a multi-layered conversation, defying and echoing the visitors’ own assumptions.
