Set across the hillside above Vourni Beach on the island of Tinos, Odera Tinos, Autograph Collection is conceived as an architectural intervention deeply rooted in its setting, emerging naturally from the land and establishing a continuous dialogue with it.
Excavations revealed remains spanning several periods: a Classical-era tower, traces of a Late Byzantine monastic cell, and scattered structures from the Ottoman period. Together, they form a layered historical landscape, one in which the resort becomes the latest architectural presence.
The design draws from the enduring clarity of ancient Greek architecture, the spatial depth of Byzantine ecclesiastical forms, and the restraint of Cycladic vernacular building. Local materials, familiar geometries and a measured architectural language allow the complex to settle naturally into its setting.
Its organization recalls the compact fabric of traditional island settlements, where buildings are connected by narrow passages, shaded thresholds and sudden openings towards the landscape. Throughout the resort, a sequence of paths and alleyways unfolds into framed views, quiet courtyards and moments of retreat.
From the reception area, a long arcade establishes a strong sense of perspective and procession, evoking the atmospheric depth of Byzantine architecture. Light filters through carefully placed openings, animating the interiors with shifting patterns of brightness and shadow.
Pale stone, timber and native vegetation reinforce the connection to place, while the guest-room volumes are shaped with a sculptural softness that echoes the organic character of Cycladic settlements. Following the contours of the hillside, the architecture appears to emerge from the terrain.
Infinity pools extend towards the horizon like natural basins formed among the rocks after rain, visually dissolving into the Aegean beyond. Through material, form and landscape, Odera seeks not to replicate the past, but to become part of the island’s continuing architectural and cultural narrative.
