The Ocean Park Boulevard Complete Green Street project was initiated by a community that long felt this street, which connects the beach to Lincoln Boulevard in Santa Monica, should unite rather than divide their community. The City asked John Kaliski Architects to develop a consensus design approach that would green the street with medians, trees, and new plantings, introduce bicycle lanes, calm traffic, enhance pedestrian safety, and collect storm water.
In a first phase of work, a design approach that met the needs of both the community and City departments was developed through John Kaliski Architects facilitated workshops and meetings.
In a second phase of work, John Kaliski Architects, working with civil engineers Kimley-Horn and Associates, continued to lead the design effort through the development of construction documents. Today the completed on-time and on-budget project has re-establishd the Boulevard as a place for walking and biking to and from the beach, stitching neighborhoods east and west together.
