Originally built in 1970, Varner Hall at Oakland University houses classrooms, rehearsal and performance spaces, and administrative offices. The recital hall hosts professional and student performances throughout the year, and the studio theatre and lab theatre serve as the venues for performances given by students in the School of Music, Theatre and Dance.
In order to provide these music, theater, and dance students with a better equipped space to showcase their craft, Varner Hall required new MEP systems infrastructure, interior finishes, and furniture updates. =Stantec led this renovation and addition-- improving functionality while supporting and inspiring creativity.
The renovation also added new lobbies to help facilitate building circulation and improve accessibility, while complementing the exterior with a new, welcoming entrance. Key elements of the project master plan included the Stantec-led review of the HVAC and other building systems for replacement and repair within the existing building.
These impactful building improvements will be recognized long-term by the school’s faculty, audience, and the performers who bring the space to life.
