NV Tower is a contemporary structure that defines the cityscape of Bulgaria’s capital. The shape of the building intentionally follows the slopes of Vitosha mountain above the city.
NV tower is a high-rise multifunctional building that is envisioned to provide 24/7 activities. Located in the southeastern part of the capital, the fluid functionality ensures the sustainable operation of the building and its long-term attractiveness.
The spatial and visual impact of the building is inspired by the crystals (as mining is one of the main activities of the client) and the steep mountain slopes and high peaks of Vitosha mountain in the background. Because of its unusual visual identity, the building has become a local landmark and a focal point in the contemporary cityscape of the blooming and growing Bulgarian capital.
NV tower is the first building in Bulgaria which has natural vegetation on each level from the ground floor to the roof as more than 150 trees are planted on the terraces. Thanks to this unique feature viewed from above they resemble a green waterfall that continues to the ground floor where it meets the public park developed at the entrance of the building. This helps the site to act as an urban space that connects to the lively boulevard.
ARCHITECTURAL IMAGE
The body of the building is divided into several volumes to refine the architectural scale and the contours of the individual volumes are folded inwards to give the building a more slender appearance. The upper surfaces are beveled to the north to prevent overshadowing of the residential buildings on the opposite side of the boulevard as well as to achieve a more dynamic architectural image that is complemented by the rounded corners of the individual volumes.
The building consists of two pyramidal structures with expressed verticalism and different height, glazed along their entire perimeter and connected by a middle body, which is cladded in powder-coated aluminum panels. The biggest challenge faced throughout the design process is developing the various details of the aluminum cladding which is a major part of the building’s vision and the emphasis on its shape. The architectural image of the building requires many new innovative facade solutions.
FUNCTION AND USE OF SPACE
The building itself acts as a contemporary multifunctional city block and is home to numerous functions, the main ones are office, residential and retail but restaurants, cafes, shops, wellness and sports center with indoor swimming pool and medical center add up to the 24/7 livability of the building. Wellness and nature sit at the heart of the concept that makes NV tower an example of contemporary urban development.
The variety of functions that the NV tower offers are also based on the multifunctional character of the territory - residential districts, educational institutions and student campuses, office and administrative buildings that surround it.
There are three entrances on the ground floor - from the north, east and west. All three of the entrances lead to a vast space, distributing the human flow, the scale of which is adapted to the scale of the building. The large transparent glazing ensures a smooth transition between the urban environment and the building. The office floors vary in size, following the geometry of the building. This allows flexibility in the planning of the interior spaces.
SUSTAINABILITY AND INNOVATION
Together with its approach to nature with integrated vegetation NV tower has also received recognition for its sustainability efforts with receiving a LEED GOLD certificate for its responsible attitude towards contemporary ecological needs.
NV Tower is also awarded multiple times with local and international recognition. One of the most important recognitions worldwide is the Emporis Skyscraper Award in 2022, when the building was named the thirst most impressive skyscraper in the world.
