After nearly a decade of planning, the Northwest Fire District recently opened their new training facility located in Marana, Arizona. The project sits on a 12.59-acre site and was designed to accommodate new-recruit training and the Northwest Fire District’s and outside agencies’ ongoing education/training. The project consists of Training Division administration and classrooms, a simulated fire station/classroom building, satellite classroom/lab, two-story multi-scenario Class ‘A’ Burn Building, five-story Training Tower, miscellaneous propane-source site-burn props, miscellaneous confined-space and forced-entry props, auto extrication, drafting pit, and a multiuse central courtyard and memorial space. The project was also master-planned to include future burn props/buildings, auditorium and cafeteria, and a centralized fire department administration building. The Northwest Fire District Training Facility was the recipient of the 2012 Station Style Training Facility "Bronze" Award.
