RAFI is providing comprehensive planning and design services, including assistance to the Construction Manager for this work. Laura J. Spina is the principal-in charge of the project, and Dr. Fielden is the architect-of-record.
Scope of Design Firm’s Assignment: Comprehensive professional services from advanced planning studies and operational analyses through post construction and warranty assistance. This project is the largest public works project in the history of the city so its successful development is especially important politically.
The key design challenges were designing a state-of-the-art facility to be shared by the Municipal Courts and Department of Detention and Corrections within an extremely tight budget. Each agency possesses a unique set of functions and needs, however, the requirements must be integrative and part of a cohesive building program providing secured separation, but interactive connections between the corrections area and the courts. As a public service facility on the city hall campus, the two discreet functions must have a unified appearance to the community and to the remainder of campus. Security needs and fiber-optic communications are critical to both administrative functions.
Project Highlights:
Providing an economical, efficient and flexible facility that successfully serves a rapidly growing community for many years into the future. The overall 30 million dollar project was successfully bid within less than 1% of the architects estimated construction cost and is being completed within 60 days of the original contractor schedule.
