The Pennsylvania Avenue Parking Garage is part of a campus that includes a new home for the New World Symphony America’s Orchestral Academy and a 700-seat concert hall The parking structure prominently features GKD’s Helix 12 woven metal fabric as the exterior facade element. The Helix 12 is lit with LED lights installed at the base of the mesh above the ground floor retail level on three sides. The LED lighting is programmed to change colors continuously or to correspond with special events happening at the New World Symphony or holidays.Using this open metal fabric maintains visibility and allows air to flow, making mechanical ventilation equipment unnecessary. Both capital and operational cost savings are realized. Security and safety are provided by the metal fabric as well. In addition, the installation has to stand up to hurricane force winds and continuous salt air. High grade stainless steel and experienced engineering from GKD accomplishes these objectives.
