La spiaggia di Sesto is a project for a sport complex designed by Archilea architecture, Renato Pucci architect in collaboration with arch. Giovanni Carignani and arch. Maria Nieddu.
Located in the countryside of Capannori (Italy), near the ancient city of Lucca and in a fantastic natural scenery the new sport center project was elaborated to blend harmoniously with its natural surrounding, drawing inspiration from the traditional architecture and the natural landscape of the region.
The aim of this project is to provide the area of new public services, encouraging sport activities as a way to promote the social integration for the inhabitants in the area, expecially the youth persons.
The volume of the new sport center takes place near the Visona creek with a spectacular view on the Castelvecchio di Compito castle; as the complex is situated in a protected landscape area the volume is partially underground to reduce the visual impact on the area and the exterior facilities are placed on different levels.
The shape of the new volume is optimized to connect the different levels of the exterior part with the interior spaces, and to maximize the natural illumination inside the building in order to reduce energy requirement and to control moisture.
The outdoor area supports programs for swimming with two pools, mini golf and free gym areas. The Visona creek shore is equipped as a free relax area; a sort of river beach the name of the project is inspired by: La spiaggia di Sesto.
Near the exterior pools there are a bar, a restaurant and a big terrace with panoramic views on the castle, designed for special events.
Inside the main space is placed the big olympic regolamentary swimming pool with view on the Castelvecchio di Compito's castle. Surrounding the main hall and with view on the pool, are placed a gym and the wellness center, as well as three multipurpose halls for cardio activities, pilates and many more. On the roof there are some paddle tennis fields and a free gym area. The big ramp on the main front connects the exterior level with the main entrance and the commercial zone that allows the natural light to penetrate on the underground level where are the changing rooms. All the different facilities have independent access and can be used separately.
