Steel Frame Fire HouseDesign Intent: To integrate the relationship between positive and negative space for the occupant to interact in. These integrations and relationships are formed by the function of the program, the occupants and restraints from the site. The site obstacles include elevated "L" tracks taking up 1/3 of the site's east corner, a busy one way street fire trucks have to maneuver through. On the inside and on the outside negative and positive space take part of the design; on the outside the negative space creates an urban area for the surrounding residential community to enjoy as well as the fire house occupants. On the inside positive and negative space interact through mezzanines, low/high ceilings and wide/narrow hallways.
