The idea of flying, the spirit of the place, the structure of the historic airfield – the new building for the Museum of Aviation intellectually references these ideas and synthesizes them into a building. Old hangars provide the footprint and the height for the basic module and, cut and folded like a windmill or a propeller, yield a subtle, functionally expressive architectural sculpture.
