The General Aviation Terminal in Mumbai is designed as an elegant convergence of luxury, innovation and nature, offering a refined reimagining of the private aviation experience. Its form draws from the fluidity of flight and the coastal curves of Mumbai, resulting in a structure that feels both contemporary and enduring. A sweeping aerodynamic roof crafted from lightweight PTFE rises and folds with a gentle sense of motion, while the translucent glazed facade lifts at the entrance to create a ceremonial gesture that dissolves the threshold between inside and outside.
At the heart of the terminal, a triple-height atrium is anchored by a cylindrical saltwater aquarium that reflects Mumbai’s maritime character. This biophilic landmark introduces a sense of calm and quiet immersion, setting the tone for a seamless passenger journey. The interior is organised to balance privacy with openness, with VIP lounges, concierge areas and floating mezzanines arranged around the central void to create layered views and intuitive circulation.
Sustainable principles guide the project from structure to landscape. Natural light is introduced deep into the building through the translucent envelope, reducing reliance on artificial illumination, while passive cooling strategies, water-efficient planting and the use of local materials reinforce an environmentally responsible approach.
The design aims to elevate the terminal beyond functional infrastructure. It becomes a spatial experience shaped by clarity, grace and movement, reflecting both the spirit of aviation and the cultural identity of Mumbai.
