The design approach for the café creates the impression of a small and well integrated building which houses a café and a small restaurant in the middle of Mountsfield Park in Lewisham, London.
Apart from the café seating areas, the building volume includes a small but well equipped kitchen with well sufficient storage space. The display counter and till are positioned next to the north entrance of the café and allows for an area where people can queue to take away beverages without obstructing the seating area.
Moreover, customers with small children entering from the north entrance can use the visitor entrance facility next to the door to leave their buggy before entering in the space.
All the services areas of the café are placed on the east side of the building, retaining the other side for seating areas in order to allow for the customers to enjoy the incredible view of the park and London’s skyline.
Carried out with cementitious flooring, Siberian larch cladding, carefully designed aluminum profile windows and doors the project allows for a cozy and comfy sensation to the visitor. It was not an easy task to provide a spacious and well organized layout when all areas are integrated into one, but the careful selection of materials assisted to express this gesture.
As for the outdoor space, it has been designed with the principle of allowing people to enjoy the park area, when permitted by the weather. More precisely we have configured the external area with slopes of the terrain in order to allow for people to relax and take a break underneath the nearby tree or exercise and play in the park area.
