Under the trends of development of rural area, a large mount of money has been invested into China’s countryside to develop agriculture, infrastructure and tourism. More and more local people start to change their career into service industry and start to making more money than before. A urgent need has been raised, which is they pay more attention to their living environment. And also, they wish to offer their spare living space for urban people as hotels or B&B. Our clients want to use their homestead land in a village to build three living units to run as hotel and one big unit for their own living.
Our design goal is provide privacy for each unit but also share a common social space at the same time. So we designed four units with their own private courtyard and these four units also enclose a big courtyard as their common space. Each units is two storey, and has their own stair to go up. Four units also have a private terrace to watch mountain closely surrounding the village，and they are all connected by a big terrace as well. The big shared terrace turn out to be a place for “neighbors for a day” to hang out and eat BBQ. The units value locates in angular orientation to offer the view for surrounding mountains.
This newly built building looks a little big distinguish for its neighbors for commercial purpose but it also follow the same fabric of the village it locate. Also we use same natural and cheap materials such as bamboos and bamboo mould concrete to make the building more localization
