The award-winning Monterey Bay Aquarium is one of the most successful, technologically-advanced and widely-acknowledged aquariums in the world. It is a major cultural institution and a popular tourist attraction. The Aquarium is not a just a “display” of marine life—rather an immersion experience. A one million gallon Outer Bay Waters exhibit is the first to house many open-ocean shark and schooling fishes. In addition, visitors view rarely seen creatures through a 52’ by 15’ acrylic window. The new wing, like the original building, is located partially over water and partially on land, actively participating with the environment it examines. Since completing construction of the original building in 1984, EHDD has completed the Outer Bay Wing, New Entry and numerous other renovations and additions and continues to work for the Aquarium on an ongoing basis.
