This 960-square-foot retail tenant improvement in Yountville, California, was developed in collaboration with Miyuki Yamaguchi Design Studio for Montecristi Panama Hats. Inspired by the craftsmanship and intricate weaving process of traditional Panama hats, the design uses “weaving” as an organizing concept for the space, informing its materials, display elements, and architectural details.
At the center of the project, a large sculptural fabric chandelier creates a dramatic focal point while recalling the rolling vineyards and landscape of Napa Valley. The installation gives the compact retail interior a strong visual identity and helps define the customer experience. Custom displays, integrated lighting, and a restrained material palette provide a warm contemporary setting for the handcrafted merchandise while maximizing display and storage within the limited footprint.
