Collalbo makes you mobile: Bus stations and underground parking lots are often less pleasant places that people want to leave as quickly as possible. With the new Mobility centre in Collalbo, Roland Baldi Architects in collaboration with Pfeifer Partners demonstrate that there is another way: functional, comfortable, safe and attractive.
The Mobility centre in Collalbo is an important hub for locals, tourists and commuters and is made up of an underground parking, a public parking lot and a bus station. With the nearby station of the historic Renon railway, which connects Collalbo with Soprabolzano, the new Mobility centre completes the local transport system.
The design of the Mobility centre took into account three fundamental aspects: the best possible connection with existing traffic, the architectural and functional continuation of the adjacent Civil protection centre, the harmonious integration with the surrounding area.
The underground car park has 92 spots and has been integrated into the natural slope of the terrain. While the interior is characterised by coloured concrete, the lateral exterior walls of reddish stamped concrete continue the architecture of the Civil protection centre, also designed by Roland Baldi Architects, in terms of form and surface structure. A staircase and a lift connect the underground car park directly to the pedestrian platform in the bus station area and form the interface between private and public transport. The expansive canopy of the bus station works as a landmark for locals and tourists and creates an architectural dialogue with the Civil protection centre. The large portals are lined up, supporting the roofing and accommodating the lighting.
The above-ground car park, partly used exclusively by the Civil protection centre, is also intended as a venue for the weekly market or other special events. Long tree-lined pools, covered with red gravel, divide the 76 available parking spaces. Long tree-lined pools of coloured concrete, covered with red porphyry gravel, divide the 76 available parking spaces.
Carefully coordinated in proportion and material, the Mobility centre Collalbo redefines public and private traffic routing of the entire municipality and gives the site a new, contemporary and distinctive face.
