For this apartment, Patricia and her team connected two floors in an old building by designing a stunning staircase and curated iconic design pieces for the interiors
With a beautiful view of a park in downtown São Paulo, Brazil, the two units of an old modernist building were transformed into an impressive and elegant duplex apartment by architect and interior designer Patricia Anastassiadis.
“This architectural project aimed to connect two floors. We tried to hide the old structure and design subtle passages so that the new layout would flow naturally”, explains Patricia.
During the refurbishment, the architect placed the living area - which includes a large kitchen, wine cellar, and home cinema - on the first level whereas the second one unfolds in a private space with suites, a family room, and also a fitness center. A stunning and sculptural staircase makes the connection between these two floors.
“Our primary goal was to create a space that was adaptable but would also showcase a strong presence that would dialogue with homeowners personality… They are very stylish and sophisticated. So we strived to connect lifestyle and comfort, as well as design and identity”, adds.
According to Patricia, she and her team were able to ensure fluidity by designing organic rooms favoring clarity and working around natural light. “It was a key element here: the spaces completely transform throughout the day as time goes by. The light reveals hidden nuances and many different textures”, she says.
To match the owner's cool and chic style, Patricia mixed iconic design pieces with new furniture by young Brazilian professionals. The choices ensured an elegant and timeless atmosphere in the interiors with special attention to detail - an important feature of Anastassiadis's work. The result is a home with an international appeal and a Brazilian twist and flair.
“Designing a home that combines coziness and design was our main goal. Selecting iconic and everlasting pieces while keeping an eye for detail was essential during our creative process”, she says. "Details give life to this project, the choices of objects and décor are essential to invoke the feeling of a true home", concludes.
