Designed for the Western Academy of Beijing, the Middle School Administration Offices transform a compact and challenging space into a warm and collaborative environment supporting both staff coordination and student wellbeing.
The project was developed within an existing area characterized by low ceilings, limited natural light, and the need for privacy. Rather than treating these constraints as limitations, Studio Vapore used colour, architectural framing, and spatial sequencing to create an atmosphere that feels open, calm, and welcoming.
At the centre of the office, a shared lounge-like space acts almost like a small internal piazza — a place for informal meetings, collaboration, and everyday interaction between staff members. Around it, smaller offices and meeting rooms support focused work and more sensitive conversations with students and parents.
Soft arches help define thresholds and create rhythm throughout the space, while strong colour contrasts introduce identity and orientation. Greens, warm reds, and natural materials create a balance between professionalism and comfort, helping the office feel less institutional and more human.
Lighting, acoustics, and material choices were carefully considered to support confidentiality, concentration, and emotional comfort. The project reflects Studio Vapore’s broader interest in educational spaces that support not only learning, but also communication, trust, and wellbeing within daily school life.
