A international urban competition held by arquitectum last year (2010). The program of the competition required a civic center, a cathedral, a architectural museum, student housing and luxury housing. This urban design project created in collaboration with my partner ALEXANDRE VAN KESSEL. The first thing that we noticed was the flatness of Miami. That flatness has translated into a downtown area that is dire search for an identity. Thus we came to the conclusion that we needed to revive Miami. Our site lies in an area where parking lots are the dominant view. Our urban design and architecture wants to make Miami a dynamic place through its architecture & expression. Why should we win? Well our project was done during our architecture studio class, while the others were contempt with only creating two buildings my partner and I were more ambitious and wanted to design all five buildings so we could participate in the contest. Our teacher disapproved and gave us a bad review at the end of the semester. Not giving up we submitted the project to the “London International Creative Competition” where we won an honourable mention in the architecture category. It is our hope to win another prize to validate our efforts and our audacity to strive for more every time we engage in a new project.
