In designing 18,000 square feet of exhibits for the new Miami Children’s Museum, LHSA+DP developed a complete immersive environment with hands-on activities, multimedia, as well as imaginative play exercises to engage visitors. Through these diverse exhibits, children explore their homes, neighborhoods and the wider world with a special emphasis on the rich diversity of South Florida. The interiors are alive with vivid colors, shifting light, reverberating sound and imagery. Some areas explore the everyday settings of shops and banks while others investigate the Everglades and coastal environment. Children can climb, slide around and explore the museum's central icon, a three-story sand castle inset with a mosaic of ceramic and glass. Designed to reveal the extraordinary in the ordinary, the experience instills a sense of wonder and curiosity that children take with them beyond the museum doors.
