To the north of the TGV station and the Châteaucreux ZAC, the new Saint-Etienne metropolitan ice rink is a structuring facility, a symbol of the urban, architectural and environmental regeneration of this district. This skating rink is a place for sports practices, fun activities, but also teaching for children, young people and those accompanying them from the 30 municipalities of the metropolis.
The project is composed of two parallelepipeds (in which are housed the sports and recreational hall) with rounded corners and glass facades up to mid-height opening perspectives between the interior and exterior and drawing an undulation that evokes the movements of skating. The white of the glazed bricks, covering the facades above the glazing, makes the skating rink visible and indicates its purpose: a new generation sports facility, marked by aesthetic and energy sobriety. The roof of the southern part of the building creates a visual and vegetal link, modern and emblematic of Saint-Etienne's commitment to the environment, where the foothills of the railroad tracks previously created a demarcation between the southern and northern districts of the city.
Bright, fresh and warm, thanks to its wooden interior, the project is a sign of a new generation of ice rink: a public facility of a new dimension, open, fluid and modular.
