The City of Nashville required two distinct yet related buildings on one site: Nashville Family Safety Center and Police Department Headquarters.
These two structures are opposed in the scale of their public interface – the Police Department Headquarters gives form to an approachable outward face for Department while the Family Safety Center provides a welcoming, calming, safe refuge to support individuals in extreme personal crisis.
Co-existing on the same site conveys a larger aspirational message of community unification – the unique forms shift in such a way to achieve the shared goal to support and protect the healing landscape within while maintaining comfortable separation between the two buildings.
