Sinsa S8 is a neighborhood living project. The tree-lined Sinsa-dong neighborhood of Gangnam-gu is composed of low-density, low-rise buildings rather than urban, tall commercial buildings. Due to the mixing of various commercial spaces, the buildings have been renovated or equipped with necessary facilities, creating a chaotic appearance. The architecture that will be built here has a sense of massing due to the light and subtle mesh facades along the boundaries of the site. We didn't want it to be covered in signage because it is paradoxically a commercial space. The ground floor is open to the city and is organized as an open courtyard. From the second floor onwards, the planned membrane façade is a two-layer structure that reveals the boundaries of the building and, with its semi-transmissive character, presents a new face to the city.
Sinsa S8: Architecture adds a new voice to the cityscape
The Sinsa S8 project, located on a tree-lined street in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, sought to create architecture that goes beyond neighborhood living and adds a new voice to the cityscape. As one of the most active commercial areas in Seoul, the area is characterized by a dense, low-rise architecture that creates a distinctive urban environment. In this environment, Sinsa S8 proposes a new architectural proposal that blends commercial activity with architectural innovation, creating a new landscape for the boulevard.
Mesh and membrane facades: bringing a new visual experience to the city
One of the unique architectural qualities of Shrine S8 is its mesh façade, which gives it a sense of mass and at the same time harmonizes with its surroundings. This gives the building a light and subtle illumination, and strives to position it as a new landscape in the tree-lined boulevard. The ground floor's open spaces and open courtyard to the city function to bring life to the neighborhood. On the second floor and above, the membrane façade has a semi-permeable character that defines the building's boundaries and encourages interaction between inside and outside.
Harmony in urban chaos and redefining commercial space
The Shinsa S8 project goes beyond commercial signage to convey a powerful message through the architecture itself. Finding harmony and beauty amidst urban chaos, the project explores how architecture can provide a new interpretation of commercial districts.
Enhancing the quality of urban life and contributing to a sustainable and vibrant urban environment
Sinsa S8 explores the potential of architecture to improve the quality of urban life and bring positive change to communities, beyond just physical space. The project offers a new interpretation of the architecture and urban planning of the Shinsaibashi neighborhood and suggests a new direction for contemporary urban architecture.
